De Johanna was built as a water taxi around the first world war. It was a means of transport for passengers in German cities, mostly from one of the river banks to the other. When more and more bridges were built the ship became unemployed. De Johanna came in the hands of a Dutch shipper who made it into a weekend/holiday boat. Eventually the shipper emigrated to New-Sealand and the ship was left alone and unattended.

A dentist from Amsterdam saved De Johanna from the perdition and sailed the ship with his wife and children for many years. Eventually the children left home and the ship was sold. It is the intention to let the ship return as a water taxi/passenger ship in the canals of Amsterdam.
