When visiting Amsterdam there’s a good chance you’ll catch a glimpse of one of the many “salonboten” (salonboats) cruising on the canals. These beautifully kept antique gentleman’s launches are a nostalgic reminder of Amsterdam’s glorious past. During the 1900s the “salonboats” were reserved for the upper class as they paraded their wealth in the canals. These launches were not only used for private functions like high teas or receptions but also in official capacities such as a means of transport for solicitors, lawyers and other professionals or officials.
A common feature of these boats is their beautiful design, luxurious interiors, wooden furnishings, leather couches, copper fixtures and stained glass windows.
Nowadays, these boats can be rented at affordable prices allowing you to enjoy the comfort and beauty of these floating antiques. The “salonboats” are perfect for a cosy dinner cruise through the romantically lit canals, or a perfect location for your next business meeting.
