Overview
History: In the past, around 1800, when Marker and IJsselmeer were still Zuiderzee, the boats, quacks and barges were sailing fishing vessels. There were different ways of fishing; the transverse pits where the net lay next to the boning beam and the ship fed ample wind, the quack pits where the net lay behind the ship and the ship fed for the wind and the miracle pits, where people fished with a net between 2 bottoms. Typical were the fishery numbers (often also the name of the ship), serving as a registration mark for the fishery.
